If you have not yet bought your stove buying a stove Online may initially appear a cheaper option, but you will also need to spend hundreds of pounds buying all of installation accessories required to fit the stove and pay a HETAS or OFTEC registered engineer to install the stove. Because Online stove retailers focus on just selling stoves, to make the Online option appear less expensive they can underestimate the cost of installation or forget to explain to install a stove in compliance with HETAS & OFTEC regulations your installer is likely to need far more than just one of their "installation kits" (which often only include a stove pipe, register plate, flue liner and rain cowl).
Buying a reasonable quality stove Online will cost around £550, buying all of the necessary installation accessories will cost around £400 and most HETAS or OFTEC registered installers' will charge around £1,000 (£550 + £400 + £1,000) = £1,950.00
Alternatively, our Stove Package One includes a choice of high quality stoves (£700 RRP), all of the installation accessories normally required and full installation by one of our teams of HETAS and OFTEC registered installers' for only £999 +vat = £1,198.80
We offer a selection of over 200 stoves. However, if we do not stock the stove you require because we are one of the country’s largest suppliers & installers of solid fuel burning stoves, we can usually supply & install any stove available in the UK for considerably less than if you bought your stove separately.
Safety regulations surrounding the installation of solid fuel burning stoves are very strict and the fine for breaking the rules is up to £5,000. If your stove is not installed by a HETAS or OFTEC registered installer you will be responsible for paying up to £450 to apply for building regulation approval from your local council before the stove is installed, then asking the council to inspect and hopefully approve the installation after the stove has been installed. Failing to use a HETAS or OFTEC registered installer could invalidate your home insurance and you may experience problems selling your property in the future.
The dramatic increases in gas and electricity prices has led to an increase in the demand for solid fuel burning stove installers. To cater for this increased demand hundreds of small stove installers have set up businesses during the last few years. Unfortunately, around 60% of new businesses close within three years and 70% close within five years. If the stove installer you choose stops trading it is unlikely you will be able to claim on any warranty they have offered or on their insurance. We are proud of the quality of our wood burning stoves, multi fuel stoves, log burners, wood burners and multi fuel stoves. We are also proud of the quality of the advice we offer, the workmanship of our installers and that we are able to offer all this at incredibly low prices.
1. Only buy a wood burning stove, log burner or multi fuel stove from the company who will be installing it because it is safer and cheaper.
If you buy a stove separately if it doesn’t work correctly after installation or several months later, the company who supplied the stove can blame the installers and the installers can blame the company who supplied the stove. This can make it impossible to get a refund, with the only way to resolve the problem being to buy a replacement from a stove company that will supply and install.
2. Do not believe you will save money by buying a stove Online.
Buying a stove Online may initially appear a cheaper option, but you will also need to spend several hundred pounds buying all of installation accessories required to fit the stove. Because online stove retailers focus on just selling stoves, to make the Online option appear less expensive they can forget to explain that your installer is very likely to need far more than just one of their "installation kits" (which normally only include a stove pipe, register plate, flue liner and rain cowl) to install a stove in compliance with building regulations and HETAS & OFTEC rules.
Buying a reasonably quality stove Online will cost around £550, buying all of the necessary installation accessories will cost around £450 and most HETAS or OFTEC registered installers' will charge around £1,000 (£550 + £450 + £1,000) = £2,000
We can supply a high quality stove (£700 RRP), all of the installation accessories normally required and one of our teams of HETAS and OFTEC registered engineers will expertly install the stove for only £999 +vat = £1,198.80
We offer a huge selection of stoves, but if we don’t stock the stove you require, we can usually supply & install any stove available in the UK for considerably less than if you bought your stove separately.
3. Always buy your stove from a company who is HETAS and OFTEC registered.
HETAS and OFTEC are the only industry regulators for the wood burning stove and multi fuel burning stove industry. If you buy a stove from a company that is not registered with at least one or preferably both of the industries regulators, if something goes wrong in the future, the only way to resolve the problem could be taking expensive legal action.
HETAS and OFTEC regulate the installation of wood burning stoves, multi fuel stoves and log burners. If a stove is not installed by a HETAS or OFTEC registered installer you will need to obtain planning permission from your council, your home insurance could be invalidated and you could experience problems selling your property in the future.
GATFire’s very experienced teams of installation engineers are HETAS and OFTEC registered.
4. Only buy a stove from a large experienced well established company who have been in business for over 10 years.
The dramatic increases in gas and electricity prices have led to an increase in the demand for solid fuel burning stoves. Many new stove companies have set up businesses during the last few years to cater for increased demand. If your stove company is not very established, not registered with Companies House of for VAT or does not have showrooms, it may not be around in the future. If a stove company stops trading, it is unlikely you will be able to claim on their business insurance if the stove installation causes damage.
GATFire has showrooms in Essex & Kent and was established for over 15 years ago.
5. Always buy your stove from a stove company who employs their own very experienced installers.
If your new stove is not installed correctly although it may appear to work normally, it may not be operating at its peak efficiency. Some newer less reputable stove companies are not concerned about their reputation, choosing to skimp on installation materials and the time they ensuring the stone operate at peak efficiency in order to increase their profits. Unfortunately, this can mean your stove will never operate at its peak efficiency, causing un-necessary pollution and failing to produce the reduction in heating costs a wood burning stove can provide.
GATFire’s experience installers have installed thousands of stoves which operate at peak efficiency.
6. Do not pay a stove company a large upfront deposit.
If your stove company asks for a large deposit or stage payments, it could be because they are in financial difficulty and cannot afford to buy your stove or pay the installers. Over 70% of new businesses fail within five years. If a stove company fails and your stove causes damage to your home, you could have nowhere to turn. Additionally, paying a large deposit can incentivise a stove company to delay or reschedule your stove installation for weeks or even months.
GATFire requires deposits of only £50.
7. Check your stove company’s public liability insurance is up to date by phoning their insurer.
If something goes horribly wrong during your stove installation, if your stove company or the installers do not have public liability insurance or they have not been able to afford to keep up their monthly instalments, you may have nowhere to turn.
GATFire’s public liability insurance covers up one million pounds per claim, it is paid for in one premium at the start of each year, you can view confirmation of cover by clicking on Insurance at the bottom of the page.
8. Insist the stove company puts everything is in writing.
Make sure your stove company provides you with a written quotation which includes a full breakdown of exactly what is included in the price and a copy of their terms & conditions of business. It is important you receive this information in writing because unscrupulous stove companies make sales by providing unbelievably low quotations, then adding extremely costly extras on the day of installation. If your stove company is reluctant to provide such basic written information you should seriously reconsider the choice of a of stove companies.
GATFire always provides written quotations which include a breakdown of exactly what is included in the price, a copy of its terms & conditions of business and written confirmation of an installation date.
9. Do not pay a wood burning stove, log burner or multi fuel stove company more than you need to pay.
Stove companies who do not advertise their prices do so because they rely on their salesperson to “design” stove installations which often cost thousands of pounds more than you want to spend. Stove companies who advertise “Prices from only…” without giving any real examples, rely on their salesperson to “upsell” stove installations which then cost thousands of pounds more than you want to spend.
GATFire’s will supply and expertly install a high quality wood and multi fuel burning stove for only £999 + vat. Alternatively, our low overheads and strong purchasing power means we can supply and expertly install the luxury designer stove of your choice at an incredibly low price.
10. Try to use a wood burning stove, log burner or multi fuel stove company which has been personally recommended to you.
Reviews included on websites, review sites, trust us sites and social media are easily manipulated and cannot always be relied upon. Multi fuel stove, log burners and wood burning stove companies who receive personal recommendations receive them because of the quality of the work they do and the price they charge.
GATFire’s combination of expertise, quality of workmanship and competitive prices means more than 80% of new customers come to us because a previous customer has recommended them.
